Important Information Regarding COVID-19

Dear Patient,

As you know, the COVID-19 pandemic continues to evolve. Under the direction of the regulatory body for dentistry in Ontario – the RCDSO – we have suspended all elective procedures and are addressing the needs of emergency patients only. We are available to existing and/or referred patients for telephone consultation to help you manage your dental emergency. If your emergency condition cannot be controlled by pharmacological means, we will be happy to see you in our office, as long as you meet the criteria of a true emergency and you DO NOT fall into any of the following categories:

  1. Have symptoms of an upper respiratory tract infection (cough, runny nose, sore throat)
  2. Have a fever (temperature of 38 degrees Celsius or more)
  3. Have travelled outside of Canada within the past 14 days
  4. Have had close contact with someone who has acute respiratory illness
  5. Have had close contact with a confirmed or probable case of COVID-19

If you have an emergency, but don’t pass COVID-19 active screening, we will provide you with an alternative course of action to manage your oral surgery emergency. For those of you who do not fall into any of the above categories and who will be coming to the office, the following protocols will apply:

  1. We will be actively screening patients at reception. Patients who fail screening due to upper respiratory symptoms will have their appointment cancelled and will be advised to follow up with their primary health care provider.
  2. We will not permit visitors into the office unless required for the purposes of language translation or to accompany a minor. Those who accompany patients will have to wait outside the office in order to adhere to appropriate social distancing guidelines.
  3. We will not have you wait in our waiting room. You will be taken to a treatment room immediately upon entering the office. If no rooms are available, we will ask you to wait outside the office and we will call you to come up when a room becomes available. While not ideal, this will allow us to adhere to social distancing guidelines.

In addition to the protocols outlined above, we will conduct routine follow up appointments by phone and book an in-person follow up only if deemed necessary. If you are doing well but would like an in-person follow up, we will gladly see you once the pandemic has passed and life returns to normal. We appreciate your continued patience during these unprecedented times.
