CDCP Questions in Ottawa
BluSky Dental Richardson
A CDCP approval letter can leave you with a few practical questions about the next dental visit. These answers help separate your membership, the proposed treatment and the amount you may need to pay.
Common CDCP questions in Ottawa
Check the coverage start date and current status in your programme information. Approval is not a reason to assume treatment on any earlier date is covered. Give the Richardson team your details when booking so the visit can be planned with the correct information.
Not necessarily. Your share can include a co-payment, charges above the amount recognized by CDCP and services the plan does not cover. Ask for your expected portion before accepting treatment, even if your letter shows no income-based co-payment.
No. CDCP reimburses the provider for covered services rather than reimbursing members for a bill they submit afterward. Confirm that the provider will bill CDCP and explain any remaining amount you owe. See the official member guidance.
Some proposed services need the plan's approval before they are performed for coverage purposes. Your provider submits supporting information and the plan makes a decision. An application for that approval is not itself approval, and not every request is accepted.
Questions when circumstances change
Tell the clinic and declare it to the programme. Public social-program benefits can require coordination and do not automatically make you ineligible. Private dental insurance is a different eligibility question. Review who qualifies if you are uncertain.
No. Check the current programme instructions and your coverage status. For the 2026–2027 period, people who missed the June 1, 2026 renewal deadline can submit a new application, but there will be a coverage gap. Care during that gap is not reimbursed retroactively. Canada.ca renewal guidance explains what to do.
Contact the programme about the change instead of assuming both can continue unchanged. The eligibility rules consider access to private coverage, not only whether you have made a claim.
Questions about your treatment
The dentist recommends care based on the clinical findings and discusses alternatives with you. The plan decides what it will pay under its rules. If there is a difference, ask for an explanation of both the dental recommendation and the financial options.
Yes. Ask which services are proposed, whether approvals are pending and what your likely share will be. If a treatment plan changes, its coverage and cost may need another review too.
The federal coverage page states that orthodontic services are not currently available under CDCP. Check the current service list rather than relying on an earlier announcement about future coverage.
Service Canada handles programme application and eligibility questions. The clinic handles your dental assessment and appointment arrangements. Our application guide directs you to the official starting point.
Confirm whether the proposed service needs preauthorization, whether the response has arrived and whether your coverage will be active on the intended date. Also ask what happens if the clinical plan changes after further assessment.
An estimate based on one procedure should not be assumed to cover a different one. Keep the written proposal and any plan response together so you can check that the treatment and financial discussion still refer to the same work.
