Your First Dental Visit at BluSky Richardson
BluSky Dental Richardson
Your first appointment is a chance to get answers and establish a starting point for your care. You can tell us what concerns you, ask how the visit will work and discuss what you would like to achieve.
The appointment is planned around the reason you are attending. An urgent concern can require a different approach from a routine first examination. Confirm what is booked when arranging the visit.
Arriving at Our Ottawa Dental Clinic
The team confirms your details and reviews any remaining paperwork. Let us know about changes to your medical information, medications or symptoms since you booked.
If you are anxious or need something explained before starting, say so. It helps to discuss concerns early rather than trying to manage them silently through the appointment.
Talking About Your Dental History
Explain what brought you in and what you have noticed. A recent change, a previous treatment or a part of your mouth that is hard to clean can all be useful information.
Your goals matter too. You might want help returning to routine care, understanding a damaged tooth or considering a change to your smile. You do not need to arrive with a treatment already chosen.
The Examination
The dentist assesses the areas relevant to your appointment and discusses the findings with you. A broader examination considers the teeth, gums and oral tissues; a focused visit may start with a particular problem.
If images or another assessment are recommended, ask what they will help establish. Existing records can be relevant, and imaging is chosen according to clinical need rather than automatically repeated for every new patient.
Read our dental exam guide for more about this part of care.
Understanding Your Next Steps
After the assessment, discuss what needs attention and what the available approaches involve. Ask which concerns take priority, what can be monitored and whether treatment would happen in stages.
You should understand the plan well enough to ask further questions. Bring up cost, appointment timing, comfort and the care required afterward before deciding how to proceed.
Is Cleaning Included?
A cleaning and an examination address different needs. Whether both happen at the same visit depends on what is booked and what the assessment establishes. Confirm this with the team rather than assuming a cleaning is included.
Before You Go
Check that you know what happens next, who to contact with questions and whether another appointment is needed. Ask for clarification if an instruction or estimate is unclear.
If it has been a long time since you last received dental care, the first step is still a conversation and an assessment. You do not need to solve every concern at once to begin planning.
