Canadian Dental Care Plan in Ottawa
BluSky Dental Richardson
The Canadian Dental Care Plan, or CDCP, helps eligible people with the cost of dental care. If you are applying or already have coverage, a little preparation can make the dental appointment and payment discussion easier.
Using the Canadian Dental Care Plan in Ottawa
When contacting BluSky Richardson, say that you would like to use CDCP coverage. Have your member information and coverage start date available, and ask the team to confirm the arrangements for your planned visit.
Approval for the programme and coverage for a particular treatment are separate matters. The clinic needs to review the dental concern and check the proposed services before estimating your share of the cost.
Start with the right information
The plan has requirements involving access to private dental coverage, tax filing, tax residency and family income. Our eligibility page helps you identify the questions to check. The Government of Canada makes the eligibility decision.
If you have not applied, follow the application guide. You do not apply through a BluSky booking form, and you should not send tax records or a Social Insurance Number through a general appointment message.
What coverage means for treatment
CDCP includes a range of preventive, restorative and other dental services, subject to its rules. Some procedures need approval before treatment, and limits may apply. A dentist can recommend clinically appropriate care even when the plan does not cover every part of it.
Ask for the proposed treatment to be explained first, then review which items the programme may pay. A coverage decision does not replace your choice about whether to proceed.
Understanding your portion
You may have an income-based co-payment, a difference between the clinic fee and the CDCP amount, or a charge for services outside the plan. Having no co-payment does not necessarily mean that every appointment is free.
Before treatment, ask for an estimate of what you will pay and whether any approvals are still outstanding. CDCP pays participating providers for covered services; it is not a programme where you pay the entire bill and later submit your own reimbursement claim.
The official coverage guidance explains those distinctions.
Keep your coverage current
CDCP coverage is reviewed through an annual renewal process. Check your current period and letters rather than assuming an older card establishes active coverage. A missed renewal can create a gap before a new application takes effect.
Bring updated information when your coverage or personal circumstances change. Tell the clinic before the next visit so the estimate is based on the current position.
Before you book
Have your member details ready, describe the care you need and ask about your expected cost. For answers about claims, renewals and other practical questions, visit the CDCP FAQs.
Questions about this treatment
Tell the clinic about the dental problem and your coverage position. Ask about assessment and costs without assuming a pending application will later pay for the visit.
